Coto Meets Casper w/Laurie Ann (Int)

ABOUT THE HIKE: Bell View Trail AKA Coto to Caspers Wilderness Area. This trail meanders through the suburban edge of Coto de Caza & Rancho Santa Margarita for the first 2 miles. We will be walking on a designated dirt path through the gated Coto and Dove Canyon housing development and up along a ridge into the Caspers Wilderness Park. Whatever mileage you want or feel up to is up to you. If you turn around before reaching the wilderness area (2 mile marker), you should feel comfortable without getting lost getting back to your vehicle. But once we leave suburbia it will be safer to be in a group. When I scouted this route, I interrupted a pack of mule-deer. I also saw quite a few road runners and hawks. We can decide as a group when we will turn back. DISTANCE: Apprx 6-7 miles. Plan on 2 - 3 hours. NOTES: Choose trail shoes. Slippery on the descents. Bring a flashlight/headlamp plus plenty of water (2 liters+) and snacks you can eat on the go. If windy - remember your windbreaker. No Restrooms available at trailhead. If you need a restroom, try the Jack-in-the-Box on the corner before you hit the trailhead. You won't be alone if you have trekking poles, use them to get up to 40% more out of our workout. DIRECTIONS: Plano Trabuco Rd & Dove Canyon Dr; Coto De Caza, CA 92679 for map. From 241 Southbound toll road exit Santa Margarita Pkwy and turn Right for 1.8 miles. Right on Plano Trabuco Rd. for 0.3 miles.
