On roads, sidewalks, and paths through the town of Ipswich. Settled in 1630, here the cry "no taxation without representation" was first heard. The "birthplace of American Independence" boasts more 17th century buildings than any other place in America. Over 40 homes still used were built before 1725. Ipswich was home to Pulitzer prize author John Updike, who based his fictional town, Tarbox in his novel "Couples", on this small New England town.
