Museum of Natural History Tours at Macbride Hall
University of Iowa Museum of Natural History
Iowa Hall leads visitors on a 500-million-year adventure through the state's geological, cultural, and ecological history. The Iowa Hall lobby also features a gift shop and exhibits celebrating the work of Iowa's early naturalists. The exhibits in Mammal Hall explore the adaptation and diversity of mammals around the world, from aardvark to zebra. The Hageboeck Hall of Birds displays more than 1,000 of the museum's 12,000 specimens, one of the largest bird collections in the nation. The Diversity of Life exhibits on the ground-floor corridor describe the major plant and animal groups, as well as the art of taxidermy and exhibit design. The Biosphere Discovery Hub, new in September 2007, is Iowa's gateway to our global environment.
Museum programs include an annual lecture and field trip series on a variety of natural and environmental topics. Contact the Museum or visit our website for a current program listing.
Guided tours of Iowa Hall are available. Reservations are required for groups of eight or more. Please contact the Museum at 335-0480 to schedule a tour or make a group reservation.
