      2013 MAPS Fossil EXPO XXXV

      Friday, April 05, 2013; 8:00 AM - 5:00 AM
      Mid-America Paleontology Society (MAPS)

The MAPS Fossil Expo is the largest show in the world that exhibits fossils exclusively. The Expo is held in early spring with fossil enthusiasts converging from all across the nation as well as from Canada and a few overseas countries. You'll find an enormous variety and number of fossils ranging from tiny insects to giant dinosaur bones. The great range of items at the show makes fossils accessible to all interests and budgets.

In addition to the buying, selling, swapping & display of fossils (only fossils and fossil related items are allowed), there are children activities, programs on Friday evening and Saturday, silent auctions on Friday and Saturday, and a live auction on Saturday night. There will be a special exhibit of a Tarbosaurus ( Asian T-rex) courtesy of Michael & Barbara Sincak from Treasures of the Earth.

School groups are encouraged to attend on Friday. This is a wonderful opportunity for fossil enthusiasts to meet like-minded people from across the country. Bring in your own fossils for help in identifying them.

(And for the non-purists - there is a non-MAPS sanctioned pre-EXPO show at the Iowa City Travel Lodge (Exit 246) on Wednesday and Thursday and after EXPO hours during the show where you can get normal rock show items such as (gasp) geodes & agates & crystals ...)

Check the MAPS website for EXPO program information and times.

      Cost: Free admission, donations welcome
