Teaching Comprehension for Understanding and Engagement
This class is for teachers who want to explicitly teach thinking strategies so that students become engaged, thoughtful, independent readers. It is a guide for teaching reading comprehension strategies not only in reading classes, but across the curriculum. The focus will be on instruction that is responsive to students needs, and is easy for teachers to implement. Some sample topics include: teaching students to infer, teaching students how to monitor their own comprehension, and gaining information by questioning the text.
