ewis\, Michael Williamson and Lucian Perkins as they present and discu

es of photojournalism.BIOS OF PANELISTS Michel duCille is the winner o
f two Pulitzer Prizes\, one for coverage of the eruption of the Nevado
del Ruiz volcano in Colombia in 1986\, and another in 1988 for a phot
o essay that illuminated a crack cocaine problem in a Miami housing pr
oject. Carol Guzy\, a registered nurse turned photojournalist\, won he
r first Pulitzer when she and Michel duCille documented the aftermath
of the volcanic eruption in Colombia in 1986. With a knack for highlig
hting "people's most intimate moments â€" their joys and sorrows\, the
ir triumphs and tragedies\," she won her second and third Pulitzers fo
r her coverage of Haiti in 1995 and Kosovo in 2000. Matthew Lewis's Pu
litzer Prize-winning photograph of John J. Wilson\, the gruff yet char
ming attorney for former White House chief of staff H.R. (Bob) Haldema
n\, distills the lawyer's multifaceted personality in the blink of an
eye. About the art of the photograph\, Lewis believes\, "The great cha
llenge is to communicate visually with impact what the story is about.
" As an author\, Michael Williamson won a Pulitzer Prize for nonfictio
n in 1990 for his clear-eyed look at the plight of the homeless with c
o-author Dale Maharidge. As a photojournalist\, Williamson shared a se
cond Pulitzer Prize with Carol Guzy and Lucian Perkins for their cover
age of Kosovo in 2000. Lucian Perkins's documentation of the effects o
n families of entrenched poverty in Washington\, D.C.\, and of the des
peration of families trying to escape the ravages of war in Kosovo ear
ned Pulitzer Prizes in 1995 and 2000 respectively.
