SUMMARY:SVPMA Monthly Event - Social Software: Improved Group Collabor
ation for Effective Product Mgmt with Ross Mayfield\, Socialtext
DESCRIPTION:Organization: SVPMA - Silicon Valley Product Management As
sociation\nTopic: Social Software: Improved Group Collaboration for Ef
	fective Product Management\nSpeaker: Ross Mayfield\, Chairman\, Presid
	ent & Co-founder\, Socialtext\nDate: Wednesday\, January 7th\, 2009\nT
ime: 6:30pm - 9pm\nLocation: Network Meeting Center at the TechMart -
5201 Great America Parkway\, Santa Clara\nCost: Free for Members. $25
	for pre-registered Non-Members. $35 at the door.\nMore info: http://sv
pma.org/meetings.html\n\nPresentation:\nBeing an information hub is th
e largest role of a Product Manager. Today\, most of this collaboratio
n happens through email. Documents get emailed back and forth with num
erous edits and versions being saved. Comments get posted in reply to
all emails which become hard to follow with each new reply. Business b
est practice is broken down because your team is drowning in hundreds
of emails a day from multiple projects. Enterprise 2.0 lets us shift t
hings from documents and emails because not only in many cases it’s
easier\, but better.\n\nRoss Mayfield will show how utilizing Social S
oftware-based client collaboration is different\, and can help to stre
amline all phases of product management. The most important context in
cludes people to make it social. As we have seen this largely already
happened with the web\, the enterprise is next.\n\nThrough the creatio
n of private wiki workspaces\, shared directly with their clients\, an
	d micro-blogging messaging tools\, teams have a single\, easy-to-manag
e place where they can put all the materials related to a project or c
lient (letters of proposal\, PowerPoint documents\, product designs\,
to-do lists\, meeting notes\, etc). Because the access is shared withi
n the collaboration space\, the team can easily access the latest vers
ion of materials\, and offer comments\, questions\, and feedback right
in the workspace.\n\n\nSpeaker:\nRoss Mayfield is Chairman\, Presiden
t & Co-founder of Socialtext\, the first wiki company and leading prov
ider of Enterprise 2.0 solutions. A noted blogger and industry expert\
, he is a serial and social entrepreneur. Mayfield has grown Socialtex
t to over 4\,000 customers with Software-as-a-Service\, Appliance and
Open Source solutions. Mayfield partnered with Dan Bricklin\, the crea
tor of the first spreadsheet visiCalc\, to co-develop and distribute S
ocialCalc. Socialtext is backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson\, SAP Ventu
res and Omidyar Network.\n\nPreviously\, Mayfield served as VP of Mark
eting for a Fujitsu spinout and CEO of an enterprise risk management s
oftware company. Mayfield co-founded and served as president of RateXc
hange (AMEX:RTX)\, the leading B2B commodity exchange for telecom. May
field served as the marketing director of the largest privately held t
elecommunications group in Eastern Europe and was the internal lead ma
nager of their Initial Public Offering. He also founded an ISP\, a web
-design company\, and has served on a number of Advisory Boards of hig
h tech startups.\n\nMayfield is a former advisor to the Office of the
President of Estonia and began his career in the non-profit sector. He
holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California a
t Los Angeles and completed the Management Development for Entrepreneu
rs (MDE) program of the Anderson School of Business. He resides in his
hometown of Palo Alto with his wife and two children. He blogs at htt
