SUMMARY:The Brilliant Mistakes\, Location Location\, Papertrees
DESCRIPTION: The Brilliant Mistakes formed in 1994 in New York City wh
en singer-songwriter-keyboardist Alan Walker met songwriter-bassist Er
ik Philbrook met while they were both working in book publishing at Pe
nguin USA. Walker\, raised in New York City\, and Philbrook\, a transp
lant from Bangor\, Maine\, were two book lovers who also shared a yen
for classic pop songwriting\, and bonded over an appreciation of such
artists as Elvis Costello and the Attractions\, Nick Lowe\, Joe Jackso
n\, Squeeze and Crowded House. Joining the band was drummer Mickey Woo
d\, who had played in Walkers previous band\, Club Iguana\, as well as
New York guitarist Andy Resnick. Taking their name from an Elvis Cost
	ello song\, they recorded an EP\, Lost Luggage\, in Portland\, Maine t
hat same year and began playing the club circuit in Manhattan. In the
fall of 2008\, the band is set to release their third album\, Distant
Drumming. Produced by Lincoln Schleifer\, the album marks a distinct e
volution in the bands sound. Incorporating more acoustic guitar\, lush
harmonies as well as a wide array of vintage keyboards\, including Fa
rfisa\, Hammond B3 and Hammond Aurora Classic organs\, upright piano\,
Wurlitzer electric piano\, and a variety of percussion instruments\,
the album is more organic with greater emphasis on grooves\, dynamics
and textures. The album also features guests such as singer-songwriter
Mike Viola\, frontman for the Candy Butchers who is also one of the s
ongwriters behind the hilarious musical comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Co
x Story\, as well as guitarist Larry Campbell and guitarist Marc Shulm
	an (Suzanne Vega).Artist&39\;s websiteLOCATION LOCATION::Artist&39\;s

ly evolving. They began with singer/songwriter Allison Polans writing
melodies on guitar and vocals but have now grown into a family of soun
ds. The core crew also consists of Deirdre Loughridge (cello)\, Phil D
&39\;Agostino (upright bass)\, Andrew Lipke (keys/organ) and Alec Melt
zer (drums/percussion). Occasionally\, guest appearances from local Ph
iladelphia artists will appear in their performances as well. They hav
	e been described as a soulful\, quirky\, eclectic\, jazzy-folk band wi
th high energy and intensity. After a 2007 completion of an EP that ar
e sold at live shows\, Papertrees are preparing to work on their first
full-length album with the desire to spread their music beyond local
ears. Polans sometimes tours solo as a one-woman band to meet new peop
le and share their songs\, including a performance at the 2008 SXSW Mu
sic Festival. They are very proud to be a part of the incredibly versa
tile Philadelphia music scene.Artist&39\;s websiteThursday\, December
