	Eastern-European and Gypsy melodies\, Latin rhythms\, Jazz-inspired im
	provisations\, and deeply rooted Classical forms are given new meaning
	s. Founded by the maverick film composer\, arranger\, and violist Lev 
	'LJOVA' Zhurbin --- hailed by Billboard magazine as one of New York's 
	fastest rising composers and instrumentalists -- the ensemble also fea
	tures his close collaborators on vocals\, accordion\, bass and percuss
	ion. Inspired by his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma\, Osvaldo Golijov\, 
	the Kronos Quartet\, the rapper Jay-Z and others\, Ljova's composition
	s dazzle with intricate textures\, odd rhythms and lilting melodies\, 
	creating music that is both fresh and timeless. Since its founding in 
	summer 2006\, the band has performed the Brooklyn Academy of Music\, N
	ew York's Museum of Modern Art\, the Philadelphia Art Museum\, as well
	 as several appearances at Joe's Pub and Barbes. Their debut CD is sla
	ted for release in the summer of 2008. The members of Brooklyn Rider h
	ave come together to form a string quartet that involves creative prog
	ramming and exciting collaborations to illuminate music in new ways an
	d invite audiences into a greater shared dialogue. Individually\, they
	 have appeared as soloists with major symphony orchestras including th
	e New York Philharmonic\, the Philadelphia Orchestra\, and the Chicago
	 Symphony\, and have taken part in many of the leading chamber music f
	estivals in the United States and abroad. As educators\, they have had
	 affiliations with such institutions as Princeton University\, Harvard
	 University\, Rhode Island School of Design and Williams College. They
	 have also been honored by an Avery Fisher Career Grant\, the Kreisler
	 Competition\, the Menuhin competition\, the Arts Recognition and Tale
	nt Search and the American String Teachers Association. They have work
	ed extensively with composers such as Chen Yi\, Osvaldo Golijov\, Dimi
	try Yanov-Yanovsky\, Wu Man\, Shirish Korde and Kayhan Kalhor and have
	 collaborated with such diverse figures as violinist Jenny Scheinman\,
	 singer songwriter Christina Courtin\, and visual artist Kevork Mourad
	. Last November\, Brooklyn Rider helped to curate a week-long residenc
	y at National Public Radio's Performance Today. Much of Brooklyn Rider
	's desire to extend the borders of conventional string quartet program
	ming has been through their involvement with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ense
	mble. As members of the ensemble\, they have performed throughout the 
	world\, recorded two albums for Sony Classical\, and have reached audi
	ences through a series of educational initiatives\, family concerts an
	d media broadcasts.  \n
