	Cagle\, who had already sold more than 30\,000 copies of her self-made
	 CD. "Her voice was so unbelievable\, so positive and uplifting in suc
	h an unlikely place ... she was like a diamond in a pile of rocks\, hy
	pnotizing everyone who passed."Levine\, in turn\, introduced her to th
	en new president of Columbia Records\, Steve Greenberg. She soon becam
	e his first signing in this placement. Mayaeni is the daughter of an A
	merican rock guitarist/songwriter and West African mother from Sierra 
	Leone. The constant sound of her father's guitar awakened a desire in 
	Mayaeni to express herself in music. Her mother\, a community organize
	r for Africans in Detroit\, exposed her to rich experiences in the US 
	and abroad. During her adolescent years\, Mayaeni spent summers in Eng
	land with her cousins and traveled to Sierra Leone and developed a uni
	que view of the world as a result of her experiences living abroad and
	 traveling.
