	ook\, Tamminen takes a hard look at petroleum and how it contributes t
	o different health hazards. He also proposes a strategy that calls for
	 an industry reform that is conscious of the different health and envi
	ronmental hazards brought on by petroleum\, which will hopefully help 
	us to one day become a society independent from oil. Tamminen brings o
	ver 40 years of experience in environmental issues both on land and in
	 water.In 1993 he founded the Santa Monica Bay Keeper and served as it
	s executive director for six years. In the summer of 2003\, he helped 
	Arnold Schwarzenegger win the historic recall election and become gove
	rnor of California. Tamminen was appointed as the secretary of the Cal
	ifornia Environmental Protection Agency in 2003\, and cabinet secretar
	y\, the chief policy advisor to the governor\, in 2004. He continues t
	o advise the governor on energy and environmental policy.
