	McMurtrey Gallery is happy to announce a show of new work by Austin-ba
	sed collage artist Lance Letscher.  Although his materials\, including
	 bookbindings\, old ledgers and journals\, and miscellaneous paper eph
	emera\, remain the same\, Lance has taken many of these new works in a
	 markedly new direction.  This time around\, Letscher's collage can be
	 divided into several distinct categories.  The first is the most remi
	niscent of his previous work\, with patterns of overlapping lines\, pi
	nwheels\, and shapes\, only slightly more deconstructed\, if you will.
	  Next\, are pieces that completely lack the order and symmetry so pre
	valent in his earlier work\, often incorporating found sketches and ra
	ndom doodling.  Third is a group of works that includes recognizable e
	lements like buildings and stairways\, and particularly train tracks. 
	 And finally is a series of works that really aren't collage at all\, 
	but rather drawings\, each done simply and intently.  Lance Letscher h
	as exhibited extensively in Austin\, Houston\, Los Angeles\, New York\
	, Paris\, Berlin\, San Francisco\, and Seattle\, as well as in Poznan\
	, Poland\; Munich\, Germany\; and Barcelona\, Spain.  His work can be 
	found in the collections of the Austin Museum of Art\, Austin\, Texas\
	; Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston\, Texas\; California State University 
	Print Collection\, Long Beach\, California\; Vinson & Elkins Law Firm\
	, Houston\, Texas\; Texas Children's Hospital\, Houston\, Texas\; and 
	numerous other public and private collections across the globe.  A boo
	k of Mr. Letscher's work is being published by the University of Texas
