SUMMARY:Rhine River Adventure: A travelogue narrated by filmmaker Rudi
	 Thurau
DESCRIPTION:The Lakewood Cultural Center\nPresents\nRhine River Advent
ure: A travelogue narrated by filmmaker Rudi Thurau\n \nSome people ar
e born for adventure and others to entertain. Rudi Thurau was born to
do both. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday\, Jan. 22\, 2009\, we will
travel with Rudi to the eastern Alps in Switzerland and the source of
the Rhine River\, through the Black forest\, ending in Katwijk on the
North Sea. Prominent throughout the trip is the beautiful Rhine count
ryside with skiing and whitewater rafting\, spectacular cities and cel
ebrated historic landmarks.\n \nTickets are $10 for adults and are ava
ilable by calling 303-987-7845\, or online by clicking the Green Strip
e for online services at www.Lakewood.org\, or at the Lakewood Cultura
l Center Box Office\, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and Alameda).
Student\, senior and group discounts are available. Free parking on s
ite.\nThe urge to travel emerged early in Rudi’s life. In 1956\, aft
er completing his education\, the young adventurer pedaled his bicycle
away from his homeland of Germany with just a few Deutschmarks\, a ca
mera and a guitar for comfort. Eight months and 6\,000 miles later\,
he paused in India. After such a lengthy odyssey\, his appetite for ad
venture had become insatiable. Scrubbing the deck of a freighter broug
ht Rudi back to the European continent where he joined forces with a y
oung American who was the proud owner of a motor scooter. Riding tande
m\, they headed for Africa where they crossed 1\,500 miles of the Saha
ra desert. On the Niger River\, the two adventurers devised a unique m
ode of transportation - a raft powered by their motor scooter!\n\nFrom
Africa\, Rudi traveled to the United States. Under the auspices of Pr
esident Eisenhower's "People to People Foundation\,” he lectured as
a traveling Ambassador of Good Will. Since then\, he has made his home
in America. His film adventuring continued through Mexico\, Central
and South America. With two companions\, he tackled the Amazon River o
n a seven-month raft voyage. That was followed by a breathtaking journ
ey down Devil's River\, on to Lake Titicaca in a reed boat\, then to T
ierra Del Fuego at the tip of South America. His past films include Co
ndor over America and My California Adventure. Rudi speaks (and sings)
in many languages\, but he is best known for his humor and lightheart
	ed narration.\n\nThe Lakewood Cultural Center 2008 - 2009 Performing A
rts Season is generously supported by Aura Spa and Wellness Center at
the Sheraton Denver West and the Rocky Mountain News – Closer to Hom

	ans.
