DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Kirwan's paintings draw inspiration from a mishm
	ash of sources including pin-up art\, mid-century animation\, the symb
	olist painters\, and greek mythology. Kirwan's subjects are often swee
	t-faced women with pudgy\, childlike proportions and the lower extremi
	ties of classic mythological creatures. They lounge or swim amidst a b
	ackground of seductively vibrant color and patterns. Behind the cherub
	ian-faces\, however\, is the suggestion of menace. Like the symbolist 
	painters\, Kirwan presents the viewers with she-monsters who are sexy\
	, independent\, and capable of a barely checked feminine ferocity. Kir
	wan paints in a number of styles\, but is always interested in the con
	trast set up by creating an appealing image of dark or slightly off-pu
