rock and roll fan wrinkle up his nose: "High School Musical\," "boy b

g the ugliest terms in music journalism\, and for good reason. Just lo
ok at the recent track record: From Russell Crowe to Lindsey Lohan ...
well\, let's just say it hasn't been a very pretty sight. Thanks to t
hose people and others (We're looking at you\, Kevin Bacon)\, any acto
r who wants an honest shot at a career in music has a long\, dark road
ahead of him.Fortunately for all of us\, "actor-turned-musician" Thom
as Ian Nicholas has two weapons in his corner. First\, he's been playi
ng music for over half his life and can write a pop song like nobody's
business. And second\, that long road we were talking about? Doesn't
bother him one bit.Thom has been\, is\, and to some degree will always
be known as Kevin from the "American Pie" movies. That's right\, he w
as that nice kid\, that wholesome kid ... that kid who got to make out
with Tara Reid. Whereas to most young men the idea of living with tha
t identity is not such a bad proposition\, Nicholas has the desire\, n
ot to mention the talent\, to be so much more."I didn't really get pig
eonholed with that film. I didn't do the pie. I didn't do my friend's
mom\," he laughs."So the idea that people know me from ‘American Pie
' is a positive thing. Any sort of success that I have achieved in my
career as an actor\, it's a total blessing\," he adds\, "but right now
\, music is my passion\, and I'm putting a lot of hard work into makin
g that a reality."Which brings us to the present day\, mere months awa
y from the release of Nicholas' debut album\, Without Warning (release
	d nationwide on January 15\, 2008). It's an upbeat\, "O.C."-worthy alb
um of pop-rock filled with more hooks than a bait shop. It features co
llaborations with rock legends like Bruce Kulick (KISS)\, Chris Chaney
(Jane's Addiction) and John Corabi (Mötley Crüe). And it could melt t
he hearts of today's TRL-loving teens faster than you can say\, "John
Mayer."Musically\, Thom draws from a solid crop of influences - from S
witchfoot to Springsteen - that have helped him learn the art of writi
ng a pop song while keeping a foot in rock and roll. His music is poli
shed enough to swagger right onto the radio\, but raw enough to sound
honest - and\, it's worth mentioning\, is much more rock and roll than
you'd ever expect from someone who's had the dubious honor of being t
agged Seventeen Magazine's "It Boy.""When it comes to the lyric side\,
I aspire to be one-tenth of John Mayer. His lyrics are unbeatable\,"
Thom says. "I also side with the Beatles\, only in the sense that I'm
a big fan of cool melody lines and changes that are unexpected. I know
that we broke the mold a couple of times."Links for Thomas Nicholas B

Almost Kings MySpace 2008 rang in as the year of bob.For more than a d
ecade\, middle school mates Adam Smith and Matt Santoro have sung\, st
rummed\, banged and riffed through a plethora of sounds and styles bef
ore finally settling on an intense rock feel with edge and energy whic
h has led to hundreds of fans at shows\, support from Anheuser-Busch\,
and an album produced by a legendary rock veteran.bob cohered into it
s current sound after years of guitarist Smith and frontman Santoro tr
ying out different arrangements and potential bandmates\, finally find
ing Drew Recny to sit behind the kit and Carl Schmeig to keep rhythm o
n bass. After a few years of developing a large D.C. area fan base\, t
he band started spreading its live shows out across multiple states al
	ong the mid-eastern seaboard.It was last fall\, when on a whim\, the b
and contacted renowned producer Garth Richardson who has worked with t
he likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine. Richar
dson liked what he heard and invited the guys up to Vancouver to spend
December and January recording the band's first full-length album in
his studio. "It was the best decision we ever made\," Adam says. "It w
as intimidating as hell to walk in Garth's office and see all these pl
atinum records around. What was really amazing was that Garth was able
to take our sound and somehow make it even more bob. He got an amazin
g dynamic going between us." The band spent 12 to 15 hours a day for a
month in the studio with Richardson\, taking only a well-deserved hal
	f day on New Year's Eve. "It was a life-changing experience\," accordi
ng to Matt. "Garth was unbelievable in the way he knew how to handle e
verybody and the best way to get everything out of me that I had and e
verything out of everyone else. It was a hell of an experience."The ba
nd was even fortunate enough to experience a drop-in by a buddy of Ric
hardson's\, Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. The Skinny Puppy and Marilyn Manson p
roducer liked the band so much\, he decided to get in on the bob actio
n and helped produce one of the album's tracks\, "Busted Dreams." As f
or the album itself\, "bbbob" features 11 tracks of the unadulterated\
, unfiltered\, raw energy that is bob. "I think this album is kind of
a throwback to what rock used to be\," Matt says. "I think rock should
have an edge and aggressiveness to it\, and I think the underlying th
eme in our music is basically thumbing your nose at authority or anyth

...and love doing it. It has been a wonderful teacher\, friend\, and c
ompanion over the years. This is the part where I tell you a little ab
out my life... so far. I grew up in South Carolina until the age of 16
	. I had a wonderful childhood\, a great family\, and good friends. I s
tarted playing music fairly young. My dad was a drummer and a musician
himself. I guess I got some of his genes. Every day after school\, I
would come home\, pick up my guitar\, and write songs for a couple hou
rs. It was my favorite time of the whole day. I began playing for my p
arents\, who supported me to the fullest. For my 15th or 16th birthday
\, my dad got me some time in his friend's recording studio. I made my
first record\, which was mostly sold to my friends and family. It was
at that time when my family and I started taking the music more serio
usly. In 10th grade\, I was very fortunate to have traveled to Californ
ia to attend Idyllwild School for the Arts\, an international boarding
school east of Los Angeles. My time there was some of the best years
of my life. I studied classical guitar and met many wonderful people f
rom around the world who greatly influenced my life in a profound way.
My greatest lesson there was observing how art spoke to everyone...no
matter what race\, what faith\, or what country you were from. I saw
how it brought people together\, and that made me feel good.In my seni
or year of high school\, I signed a record deal with Geffen Records. A
fter graduation\, I moved to LA to give my music full attention. I was
very blessed to have worked with great producers such as John Alagia
(John Mayer\, Jason Mraz\, Dave Matthews) and The Laboriel Brothers (S
ting\, Paul Mccartney). Unfortunately\, other than an EP\, none of the
records I made with Geffen ever came out. They dropped me from the la
bel in 2008. But that didn't deter me. I picked up my guitar\, wrote 1
4 new songs\, and recorded an acoustic album with my good friend/percu
ssionist Chris Steele. We have named that album "This is Blue." It was
a wonderful\, liberating experience. I feel very lucky to still have
the opportunity to create music with good friends and people.Over the
years\, I have toured and played with wonderful acts such as Steel Pul
	se\, The Wailers\, Matisyahu\, Stevie Nicks\, Ben Harper\, Colbie Cail
lat\, Los Lobos\, Ziggy Marley\, Rusted Root\, and many others. It has
been such a blessing to cross paths with so many beautiful people and
wonderful musicians. They all have influenced me so much.My favorite
part of the whole thing thus far is meeting new people on the road. It
is funny how people come together\, connect\, and establish friendshi
ps. I never knew that I would have friends in Peoria\, Illinois or Vai
l\, Colorado. Through music\, we have all been able to come together\,
share our ideas and love\, and then move on. I cannot express how tha
nkful I am to all the fans who have supported me over the years. I hav
e truly greatly enjoyed meeting all of you. I hope we get to cross pat
hs again soon. Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about my
journey. I hope that your travels are going smoothly and unfolding ni
cely. Until we meet again...Links for Trevor Hall CD Release ShowArtis

d of American music\, certain bands have a way of building an exciting
life for themselves away from the glare of national attention. Much o
f that is because of the relationship the group has with its fans. It
usually starts in small clubs or even backyards in their hometown\, th
en spreads to nearby cities\, neighboring states and soon across entir
e regions\, until the band finally comes into its own as a national pr
esence. The Benjy Davis Project is poised to take on that presence. The
y've spent the past seven years building fan strongholds around the U.
S.\, releasing three albums that capture their unique force. Davis's s
ongs speak to the ability of music to move an audience\, as seen in co
untless nights of touring and performing. There comes a point in a bre
akthrough band's career where they finally turn that corner into great
ness. With the release November 4th on Rock Ridge Music of the Benjy D
	avis Project's album\, "Dust\," this Baton Rouge\, Louisiana-based ban
d now moves into that moment."I want to reach people and hopefully tou
ch them in some way." That's how Benjy Davis describes his mission\, a
nd music is his medium. It's always been that way for him\, since he w
as a young teenager in Louisiana\, listening to everything on the radi
o\, taking it all in until it would be his time to step up and become
an artist. He formed the Benjy Davis Project in 2001\, which began as
a simple folk-rock duo but soon grew into one of the most popular band
s in Baton Rouge. Eventually expanding into a six-piece group\, the Pr
oject has recorded three albums prior to "Dust\," each a big leap from
the one before\, and played across the country as headliners and supp
ort act on shows with John Mayer\, Better Than Ezra\, North Mississipp
i All-Stars and others\, as well as events like the New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Festival. All this experience has brought them to that place
where they can become the next band to take their Southern-based soun
