SUMMARY:Walking Event: Historic
DESCRIPTION: Daily - dawn to dusk. Closed on Christmas. Chehalis began
as a settlement around a warehouse beside a railroad track in 1873\,
when the Northern Pacific Railroad built northward from Kalama to Taco
ma\, and ignored Claquato\, then the county seat three miles to the we
st. Some settlers decided that\, if the railroad would not go to the c
ounty seat\, the county seat must go to the railroad. By 1874\, a stor
e was added to the warehouse\, several houses were constructed\, and t
he county seat was moved to the new settlement. The walk is along side
walks and road shoulders through residential and business districts in
cluding historic houses and the Train Depot Museum.

SUMMARY:Walking Event: Historic
DESCRIPTION: Daily - dawn to dusk. Closed on Christmas. In pioneer day
s\, Centralia was the halfway stopover point for stagecoaches operatin
g between the Columbia River and Seattle. In 1850\, J. G. Cochran\, co
ming from Missouri with a young African-American slave named George Wa
shington\, filed a donation land claim on the townsite. Later\, Cochra
n freed his slave\, adopted him as a son\, and in 1852 sold him his cl
aim for $6\,000. George built a home and filed a plat for the town of
Centerville\, offering lots for $10 each\, with one lot free to buyers
who built houses. In 1891\, the population\, over 1\,000 by then\, fo
und its mail confused with that of another Centerville in the state\,
and the name of the town was changed to Centralia. See residential and
shopping areas\, murals\, outlet stores and historic Borst fort.

SUMMARY:Great Northwest Music Tour
DESCRIPTION: Thursday\, January 21McMenamins and opbmusic.org presentG
reat Northwest Music TourHEAD FOR THE HILLS7 p.m. | Free | All ages we
lcomeRooted in the tradition of bluegrass\, the music of Head for the
Hills is a vibrant mixture of homegrown compositions\, traditional har
monies\, and an innovative approach to improvisation. The group's lyri
cal nature and songwriting evokes reminiscent feelings of inspiration\
, and in the live setting this Colorado quartet can venture into a myr
iad of musical styles and sonic landscapes. Having recorded their soph
omore studio album in May of 2009 ¬- produced by Drew Emmitt of Lefto
ver Salmon and audio engineer Gus Skinas (Rolling Stones\, Pink Floyd\
, George Harrison) - the band has been running a busy national tour sc
hedule. On the heels of their second consecutive sold out performance
at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Fort Collins\, CO\, the band hit seve
ral major festivals and events including Northwest String Summit\, Mul
berry Mountain Harvest Festival\, Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival and
many more. The shared vision amongst the members of Head for the Hill
s is not only to carry on the spirit of bluegrass\, but also to expand
the general definition as we venture through the post-traditional blu
egrass era. Head for the Hills draws significant inspiration from the
sounds of the bluegrass forefathers such as John Hartford\, David Gris
man\, or Bill Monroe\, but also appeals to anybody who enjoys experien
cing the excitement\, innovation\, or element of youth that is incorpo
rated into each and every performance. The foundation of Head for the
Hills stretches back several years to the mountain town of Golden\, Co
lorado\, but the current lineup prefers to call Fort Collins\, Colorad
o their home. In their short but prosperous career\, Head for the Hill
	s has performed\, supported\, & shared programming with such notable a
cts as: David Grisman\, Sam Bush\, Leftover Salmon\, The Flaming Lips\
, Bruce Hornsby\, Yonder Mountain String Band\, Emmylou Harris Nickel
Creek\, Tim O'Brien\, Peter Rowan\, Doc Watson\, Railroad Earth among
many others. 2007 was a huge year for the quartet as they were the nam
ed winners of Yonder Mt. String Band's 2007 Northwest String Summit Ba
nd Completion held at Horning's Hideout in North Plains\, OR. In addit
ion they completed their debut album\, Robber's Roost\, produced by Gr
ammy Award Winning musician/producer Sally Van Meter (Bob Dylan\, Jerr
y Garcia\, Yonder Mountain String Band). Many have considered Head for
the Hills to be the next breath of fresh air to emerge from the acous
tic realm. With direction from a Grammy award winning musician and an
ever-evolving approach to progressive acoustic music\, there is no tel
ling what successes lay ahead for this group of talented musicians. "T
heir sundry blend of ancestral bluegrass\, moving harmonies and origin
al composition\, creates a sound nothing short of exceptional." - Stra

reat Northwest Music TourBLUE TURTLE SEDUCTION7 p.m. | Free | All ages
welcomeThe fresh musical movement known as Blue Turtle Seduction is a
two-fold sonic experience. Both musically and socially aware\, the fi
	ve-piece rock / bluegrass / reggae / hip-hop hybrid creates music that
defies classification. Embodying the essence of South Lake Tahoe\, CA
\, Blue Turtle Seduction captures the upbeat\, party vibe and jovial a
mbiance of their hometown. On the strength of their latest release\, 1
3 Floors\, the band is certain to be a mainstay on the musical circuit
for years to come. Featuring Jay Seals (guitar\, vocals)\, Glenn Stew
	art (harmonica\, pan flute\, vocals)\, Christian Zupancic (violin\, ma
ndolin\, vocals)\, Stephen Seals (bass)\, and Adam Navone (drums)\, th
e quintet crossed paths while working at a conference resort in the Ta
hoe Desolation Wilderness Area. The five distinctly unique individuals
comprise the Blue Turtle Seduction sound\, integrating their worldly
flair with their love of all things music. From classical to rock\, th
eir refined and dynamic sound has been capturing audiences on a nightl
y basis. 13 Floors is loaded with trademark Blue Turtle Seduction. Cap
turing the diversity of the band in fluid stages\, the latest release
showcases music with purpose. The lyrics and melodies are infused with
revelry and the harmonies encourage whole-hearted sing-a-longs. Melod
ic guitar leads complement the layers of strings and woodwind textures
. The rhythm section is groovy and as tight as a snare drum\, inevitab
ly leading to a full-fledged dance party. "With each track\, the eleva
tor shifts to the side\, up\, or down\, into a slightly different styl
	e. But it's all woven together within the Blue Turtle Seduction buildi
ng\; unmistakably us\, and an authentic representation of our Californ
ia blend\," says Zupancic. Blue Turtle Seduction's musicianship is sec
ond to none and shines through the interplay between the five multi-ta
lented instrumentalists. In addition to its musical contributions\, Bl
ue Turtle Seduction is also involved in several environmental and soci
al organizations as well. Known for their involvement and contribution
s to many non-profit organizations\, BTS is committed to making a diff
erence on all levels. Their tour bus has been converted to run on stra
ight vegetable oil and the 13 Floors release is packaged in all sustai
nable and biodegradable materials\, proving BTS as a leader amongst en
vironmentally conscious artists on the road today. Audiences have been
magnetized by the BTS sound and their high-energy live performances.
Through high-energy entertainment combined with activism and outreach\
, BTS is music for not only the socially aware but for those looking f
or a positively great time. Visit blueturtlemusic.com or myspace.com/b

SUMMARY:Great Northwest Music Tour
DESCRIPTION: Wednesday\, March 17McMenamins and opbmusic.org presentGr
eat Northwest Music TourPORTLAND CELLO PROJECT7 p.m. | Free | All ages
welcomeThe first time you see the Portland Cello Project perform you
might be perplexed when you hear affectionate fans shouting "We love P
CP!" In spite of a barrage of musical and visual sensory overload\, yo
u'll figure out that you aren't in a crowd of horse-tranquilizer-snort
ing maniacs\, and that "PCP" is the tongue-in-cheek acronym of this gr
oup of classically trained cellists. But you'll wonder what kind of a
crowd this is. In the course of one of PCP's epic 2-3 hour shows (the
format of which is always a one-time affair the group writes almost en
tirely new arrangements for every performance cycle) you'll see such s
ights as: old ladies\, straight out of the symphony hall nodding their
head to cello hip-hop\; young children playing air cello while dancin
g to 16 cellos accompanying The Builders and The Butchers\; hipsters t
oo-cool-for-school mesmerized by Arvo Paert\; members of the Decemberi
sts playing late 19th century Russian compositions transcribed for Ham
	mond organ\, a 40-piece choir\, and of course: a symphony of cellos. S
ince the group's inception in late 2007\, they have performed with a v
eritable "Who's Who?" list of Portland musicians\, from Laura Gibson t
o The Dandy Warhols\, Horse Feathers\, Mirah and Loch Lomond\, just to
name a few. The cello is more-or-less the only constant in this amorp
hous Portland collective. Yet there is an organizer holding this anarc
hic display of controlled chaos together. You'll see him sitting in th
e back row of the cello section at all of these shows\, as if to appea
r an anonymous member of the horde. This is Douglas Jenkins. Jenkins\,
who often pens 15-20 new scores for each performance\, has led the ba
nd through several CDs of original songs and covers\, and has been at
the heart of the band's rise to immense popularity in their hometown.
Although it's no longer an anomaly for popular musicians to work with
an orchestra\, it tends to be on the symphony's terms\, in the symphon
y's concert halls\, and for the symphony's exclusive rates. The classi
cally trained cellists of The Portland Cello Project are working to re
verse that tradition by making their talents accessible to their guest
s wildest dreams\, while bringing the instrument into venues where you
wouldn't normally see cellos. With this in mind\, the group will be t
ouring McMenamins properties\, bringing their collaborative philosophy
to a hotel near you! Visit portlandcelloproject.com for more informat
	ion.
