	of specific building projects. Each of these projects contained unique

	esign requirements&151\;which could be substantiated only through larg
	e-scale physical testing. This presentation will highlight several com
	pleted research projects and their practical implications. John D. Hoo
	per is a Principal and Director of Earthquake Engineering with Magnuss
	on Klemencic Associates in Seattle\, Washington. He received his Bache
	lors Degree from Seattle University (1981) and his Masters Degree from
	 the University of California at Berkeley (1984). A registered Structu
	ral Engineer in Washington\, John has 27 years of experience in the se
	ismic design of building structures with an emphasis on essential faci
