	ECS)On the Monday after the Thanksgiving Weekend (December 1)\, we wil
	l celebrate the opening of the Parallel Computing Laboratory in Soda H
	all at UC Berkeley. This newly remodeled space is designed to foster c
	reativity by encouraging spontaneous interactions between faculty and 
	students in the many areas of expertise of the Par Lab: applications\,
	 software engineering\, programming languages\, libraries\, testing\, 
	operating systems\, and computer architecture. This Lab is the result 
	of Berkeley being the unanimous top choice by Intel and Microsoft for 
	a $10M\, 5-year Universal Parallel Computing Research Center. At 10:00
	 AM we will start with a ceremony and a tour of the new Lab and poster
	s describing some of the research. This will be followed by a few rema
	rks given by some of our guest speakers at 11:00\, and then we will co
	nclude this celebration with lunch at noon. During lunch\, several Par
	 Lab grad students will host themed table discussions that you may cho
	ose to participate in. (You can choose the topics that appeal to you m
	ost when you register online). Among some of the special guests who wi
	ll give a few remarks as part of celebrating this occasion are: Shanka
