One of Helsinki's favorite new bands, Brown Bird's music has deep roots and even deeper heart. They play original, traditional American music in the best sense possible. At first, Brown Bird might appear as another indie-folk incarnation, but if you ride their musical breeze you are taken somewhere distinctly different. There is warmth, a homey bluegrass-ed folk feeling. Their latest, "Salt For Salt," was recorded live. The album achieves a pace and energy that sends listeners into a foot stompin' frenzy. Brown Bird captures the hard-driving essence of Klezmer, adds deep country folk roots, shakes it up, and lets it swell into an over pouring of soulful mystic rhythm. Brown Bird is all the wild Slavic-infused hoopla that makes Gogol Bordello so great. However, they are stripped barren, and unadorned, a raw, gut-driven surging of honesty and unrestrained musicality. They let in some undying blues to each pull of the violin and jam of the banjo.
