Saturday Night Japanese Language Karaoke Party!

Do you have the symptoms of Japanese Karaoke withdrawal? That is to say, do you find yourself singing Morning Musume or Pink Lady songs, or even worse, in the shower? Then it clearly is time for another Japanese Karaoke party! A Japanese Karaoke Party of the Houston Japanese Language Group and the Japanese Culture Society (www.japaneseculturesociety.org) takes place on Saturday evening, November 14th. JETAA (Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association, region 9) has also been invited. Invitation of other Japanese groups is also being investigated. We will meet at Sushi Jin (14670 Memorial Dr., at the corner with Dairy Ashford, 281-493-2932) at 6:30 pm. As always an RSVP is required via the Japanese MeetUp site. http://japanese.meetup.com/24/ Naturally, smoking and singing in English are not allowed. If you only know a few songs, we will teach you some new ones, or you can easily learn some yourself from the vast Japanese music video collections on Youtube.com, etc. Anyway, after a couple of beers, it is amazing how good you will sound. The Sushi Jin is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Memorial and Dairy Ashford, just west of the Randall's Supermarket. This is clearly the ultimate Japanese Karaoke bar in Houston. Karaoke at Sushi Jin is also suitable for families with children. The number of attendees is limited by the room size. If you RSVP that you will attend, you are expected to attend or to cancel at least 1 day prior to the event. Be sure to bring enough cash to pay the bill since credit card payment sometimes is difficult. A rough estimate is $5 for the Karaoke plus whatever you eat or drink (optional, many people eat before the party). I expect some of us will sing until the restaurant closes at about 10:30 pm. An advantage for those who start early is that fewer people are there, and it is easy to practice a song several times before everyone else arrives. Sushi Jin has box-type Karaoke now using the CyberDam series ( www.clubdam.com, in the Cyber DAM G70 Karaoke catalog ). Note that this is not open-room Karaoke. Check the CyberDam WWW site for the online song catalog to see what songs are available. Like several of us, you can also write and bring the code numbers for your favorite songs before the meeting so that you do not need to use the catalog during the meeting. The newest songs from Japan will typically not be listed in the printed catalog but can be found on-line before the party. The total number of Japanese songs now is about 60,000. This includes very new songs and also all the old songs. An RSVP is absolutely required. Please RSVP as early as possible so that we can obtain a room of the correct size for our group.
