Description
Goode's Armadillo Palace is proud to welcome Gary Kyle.
Gary Kyle writes about his life and music:
I picked up the guitar for one reason, to impress a girl! I had been singing for a while when I decided to take a stab at writing a song for a pretty young lady I was interested in. Just like Bryan Adams said, "I played it till my fingers bled", and it worked. I got the girl, (although I didn't keep her long).
I grew up in Kingwood, a suburb of Houston, and in my senior year of high school a friend and me fronted a cross over country band called "Big Billy Bocephus and the Yee Haws". It was that first stage experience that convinced me that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I started writing original songs in college and I would sing in front of anyone who would listen. Fortunately for me, I lived in one of the best party houses in Denton so there were often large crowds around on the weekends to soothe my performance bug. People liked what I was doing so that added fuel to my fire. After six years of college and a degree from The University of North Texas (no I'm not a doctor), I was ready to make music my full time job.
Since graduating, I have been playing in Honky Tonks and dancehalls all over Texas, Okalahoma, and Arkansas with my "No Standards Band. From ballads about lost love to nights out on the town with the boys, my musical style is as diverse as the lyrics that accompany it. I owe my diversity to having five brothers and sisters, all older that had very different tastes in music.
As a kid I remember listening to Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Kiss, The Cars and my two "favorites", Billy Idol and Motley Crue. Later, in high school, I was inspired by Alabama, the original CCR, Steve Miller Band, Lynard Skynard, Robert Earl Keen, Don Williams, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
When people ask me what kind of music I play it is hard for me to label it. It is country with some southern rock and a twist of whatever else you might hear in there. All in all I think it's a mix of some feel good, make you cry, wanna dance, good-time music.
More about these performers
Gary Kyle
Gary Kyle (lead vocals, guitar) was raised in Kingwood, TX, just outside of Houston. He grew up the youngest of six children in a very musically charged family. Gary's father, who died when Gary had just turned one year old, was a country/bluegrass singer and guitarist who performed for years in honky tonks and bars throughout Texas and Oklahoma. A singer in her own right raising six children alone, Gary's mother often made ends meet with money she earned by singing telegrams. Her musical ability also rubbed off on Gary's sister, who today is an accomplished opera singer. The diverse musical styles of Gary's family, as well as their ...Post a Countdown Widget
