Description:
Bering & James invites you to their exhibition of Filament: Elisabeth Smith, John Jenkins and J. Antonio Farfan, November 8-24.

Filament is a collaborative exhibition between J. Antonio Farfan, John Jenkins and Elisabeth Smith.

According to Jenkins, "what was originally a three artist exhibit has become an exchange of views and philosophies."

The three artists have questioned each other, each other's art and the creative process. They have found that while each artist's process, style and creation are wide ranging, the thread is humanity.

Elisabeth Smith explains, "Placing ourselves within a story is uniquely human. The thread-like brushwork in these paintings represents our desire to knit our unique events into a larger common experience."

Farfan states, "The continuing investigation of the Universe and its patterns has led me to view human civilization, its rituals and ornamentation," and Jenkins questions, "What are the connections between family, friends and strangers?" His Human Dynamics series works with the threads that connect and the spaces between.

Farfan, Jenkins and Smith will exhibit individual and collaborative works in "Filament".

J. Antonio Farfan unveils his newest works dealing with the history and transcendent nature of the precious metal, gold. Created on an intimate scale he invites the viewer to explore these microcosmic worlds. Farfan's ability to create entire universes in a small space are used to new effect in these works.

John Jenkins has dealt with visual conceptions of genetics, time travel and the ordering of chaos. For the new Human Dynamics works, Jenkins examines the space between us and the dynamics that drive us. Similarly, the large work, Turning Point, explores the concepts of human imagination and potential in his unique visual poetry.

Elisabeth Smith presents a new series of mystical and magical environments in color that envelope the viewer like the mists of a dream. Smith's ongoing investigations of the human psyche are visually translated into dreamscapes and color fields that evoke emotions and moments seen through the haze of memory.
