Dawn Ireland's Critique Group November Meetup

My critique group has been meeting twice a month for 17 years. Members arrive 6:00 - 6:30, eat dinner, then we begin discussing our notes on your pages. We used to be dedicated to screenwriting only. Now our members include novelists and short story writers. Meetup has allowed us quite a bit of freedom. We now - UPLOAD pages on the Meetup site using the FILES option for members of our group to download one week prior to the meeting. Screenwriters - not everyone has a special screenwriting software. Please convert your pages into a PDF prior to uploading pages. Members will be able to read the pages, make notes, then bring notes to the meeting for discussion. Members seeking a critique of their work are allowed to upload 10-20 pages of their work at least one week prior to each meetup date. If the scene ends on the 11th or 21st page, that is acceptable. DO NOT upload 20 pages the day before a meetup and expect a critique. We have lives. Your pages will wait until the next meetup. TO UPLOAD PAGES: Once you sign in to our Meetup group page, please use the FILES link on the left hand side of the page to UPLOAD your pages. Add a description which will identify your pages. Make sure that you choose that the pages/file is to be viewed ONLY by our group unless you want the entire Meetup.com universe to have access to your pages. This is a great tool. Please use the FILES link to upload anything you would like to share with members (articles, notes, announcements, etc.). After we are finished eating, we will discuss your project - what's good and what requires more work. Then we move on to the next set of pages. If we can't get through all the critiques that night, those that are left will be first on the list for next time OR you can get the critiques notes before you leave. Being on the receiving end of a critique of a script or novel can be difficult for writers. Learn not to defend your every word. Be open to suggestions and remember - if 2+ people have the same or similar comments, you should pay attention and be open to change. See you soon. Your Fearless Leader Dawn P.S.
