Event details: Chaotic Harmony: Contemporary Korean Photography
Description
October 18, 2009-January 3, 2010
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents the exhibition Chaotic Harmony: Contemporary Korean Photography, on view in the Audrey Jones Beck Building, Sunday, October 18, 2009 - Sunday, January 3, 2010.
The MFAH will host the debut presentation of Chaotic Harmony: Contemporary Korean Photography, presenting photographs by 40 artists born between 1965 and 1984 and representing two distinct generations. Co-organized with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and accompanied by a fully illustrated scholarly catalogue published by the MFAH and distributed by Yale University Press, the exhibition reveals the extraordinary work being created in South Korea, as well as a shifting sense of the Korean identity as expressed by artists who have witnessed the monumental cultural and social changes in their country over the past 45 years.
Catalogue contributors include Anne Wilkes Tucker, the Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator of Photography at the MFAH; Karen Sinsheimer, curator of photography at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; and photographer Bohnchang Koo, whose work is featured in the exhibition. Anne Wilkes Tucker will oversee organization of the exhibition in Houston. Following the presentation at the MFAH, the show travels to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, where it will be on view May 16 — August 21, 2010.
