Description:
Koelsch Gallery presents an exhibition of work by Beverly Floyd & Henry Rayburn, November 1 through November 29.
Beverly Floyd, a resident of Moodus, CT, describes her work as both anthropomorphic and autobiographical. Her paintings refer to her own journeys as well as to the natural world through which she moves.
Floyd has always used natural materials in her paintings; materials like wood, beeswax, tea and coffee stains. For several years she has been intrigued with the behavior of birds and has incorporated them in her paintings in often startling ways. Having completed the Master Gardener program, she has begun to encompass broader ecosystems into her delicate, sometimes mysterious, works.
Taking the less traveled path of artist endeavor, Henry Rayburn left Architecture in l985 to follow his hearts' desire.
Having solid rendering, watercolor, and drawing skills from his architectural training, Henry moved into collage and later into three-dimensional assemblages. He began to combine his collections of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional materials into new inventions, which like poetry, cross borrow from the discarded and reuse of materials in a new and meaningful form. His work can be serious, quiet, and subtle or whimsical loud and fun.
Known today mostly for his collage creations, Henry is now developing recognition for public arts projects and large installations.
