Event details: Art Works
Description
December 11, 2008-January 20, 2009
Laura Rathe Fine Art presents Art Works. On view December 11, 2008 through January 20, 2009.
Featured Artist: Michelle Y. Williams.
Michelle Y. Williams, Artist's Statement:
The inspiration for my work is both selective and indiscriminate. After the initial influence sparks the beginning of a painting, the piece generally takes on a vision of it's own, a relationship develops between us and occasionally conflicts must be overcome...art imitates life. At other times it's very passionate and I'm in the moment, not questioning the end result, trusting it will take me where it wants to go.
Working on canvas, metal, Plexiglas and wood, I paint exclusively with a palette knife and use various materials in my mixed media work, including acrylics, oils and raw materials such as sand.
My work has evolved over the years and continues to undergo numerous transformations. Unwittingly challenging the notion that consistency and logical progression are prerequisites for legitimization in a career, my signature alone remains my signature style.
I am both a patron of the arts, finding immense pleasure in collecting fine art, and benefactor, using my work as a means for supporting worthy causes.
The ultimate intention of my work is to evoke an emotional response. A strong feeling of any kind, good or bad, indicates passion, and with that we truly can live life to its absolute fullest
