Description
Come celebrate the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo at the 3rd Annual Frida Festival on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at East End Urban Market located on 716 Telephone Road. This year's FREE family festival from 2pm to 6pm will feature a children's art show with students from the Flor de Canto program at Talento Billingue de Houston, Frida look-alike contest, piñata, arts & crafts activities, DJ, dance groups, and poetry. Butter de la Garza aka Reverend Butter will create an ice sculpture on-site. The Viva La Vida Gala from 9pm to 12am will include an art show and auction with over 20 participating artists including Lizbeth Ortiz, Toni Briones, Christian Navarette, Julie Zarate, Amanda DeRosario and Stephanie Guajardo, a Frida look-alike contest, fashion show, dance, live music and poetry with special guests El Miocardio and Amira Gongora-Grynsztejn. Must be 21 and older with ID to attend the gala. Costumes are strongly encouraged!

The Frida Kahlo Festival was established in 2007 as not only a celebration of the birthday of Frida, but an exploration into the life, art, passions and history of Frida Kahlo. The purpose of this festival is to embody and promote the values of creativity, expression, community, and economic development. The festival is organized by local artists Lizbeth Ortiz, Iris Contreras, Toni Briones and the East End Urban Market.
