      Hot Springs Christmas Parade

Every year Hot Springs unveils a new theme for its Holiday Christmas Parade, and it is always a great time for families. Along with the superb parade which features floats and marching bands, the entire town of Hot Springs will be aglow with holiday cheer. For those looking for a special small town Christmas, Hot Springs will not disappoint. During your holiday vacation, don't miss this oopportunity to get into the holiday spirit.

Area groups, businesses and organizations are encouraged to begin preparing their float entries for the 2013 Oaklawn Rotary Christmas Parade. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, November 22.

This year’s parade theme is “It’s a Wonderful Life -- in Hot Springs, Arkansas.” The parade is sponsored by the Oaklawn Rotary Club, along with America’s Best Value Inn, Candlewood Suites, Edward Jones/Skip Holland and Brooke Dodd, Garland County Title Company, Sanders Plumbing and Summit Bank. Support is provided by the City of Hot Springs. This year's Grand Marshal is Terry Wallace!

The parade entry fee, $50, will be used by the club to support several Garland County charities, including the Project Hope Food Bank. Trophies will be awarded for Best Decorated Float, Best Use of Theme, Best Use of Special Effects, Best Choreographed, and Most Decorated Non-Float.

"We’re again looking forward to organizing the best Christmas parade Hot Springs has ever seen,” said Lee Richardson, parade chair. “We encourage people to be creative with their entries and utilize lights, music, noises and action.”

In addition to floats, marching groups, horses, bicycles, color guards and walking groups are allowed. Business vehicles must pull either a decorated trailer or float. No more than 85 entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. All entrants are required to send a representative to a mandatory pre-parade meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 1 at the Transportation Depot, 100 Broadway Terrace. Parade lineup numbers and additional information will be distributed at the meeting.

The official parade entry form, including parade rules, is available at www.oaklawnrotary.com and on the homepage of the City of Hot Springs’ Web site, www.cityhs.net .
