      Math in the Fast Lane - (Gr 6-12)

       

        Day 1 - Jan. 4, 2013  (This is a repeat session for new participants)

       Day 2 - Jan. 14, 2013 (ALL/same participants must attend day 2)

      Focus Schools and GNETS programs are encouraged to attend. 

      All participants must bring a copy of their content CCGPS standards.

      All participants will receive a copy of the instructor's book:  Math in the Fast Lane

      Participants need to register only once for the multiple days.

      Lunch is not included in registration fee. 

      Registration is 30 minutes before start of class. Class begins at 8:30 AM.

        

      Math in the Fast Lane is a fast-paced session built for next-day implementation.  Designed for teachers, coaches, and curriculum leaders, participants will leave with: 


      •Instructional strategies to move every student to math success.

      •Self-efficacy strategies so that students believe they can be good in math.

      •An instructional, day-by-day framework that moves students forward without getting them lost

      •Scaffolding devices that allow students to grasp new concepts…even if they don’t have mastery of prerequisite skills

      •Engaging, daily vocabulary strategies that build retention and depth of understanding

      •Daily formative assessment strategies

      •Strategies to ramp up student engagement

      •Differentiation strategies based on quick formative data

      •A clear understanding about the roles of math support/connections and how the double-dose can move students quickly so they get caught up and stay there

      •A new perspective of what it feels like to be a student struggling in math – and how to change those students’ math worlds 

      •A renewed passion for what is possible in our classrooms! 


      Your presenter:  

      A passionate life-long educator, Suzy Pepper Rollins’ mission is to create academic success for all learners by instilling instructional practices that provide accessibility to the curriculum for all students.    

      The former remedial education coordinator for Cobb County Schools, Suzy’s two areas of focus are math and literacy, which tend to impact students the most. Math in the Fast Lane, which she developed, provides an instructional framework that builds student math success while rebuilding self-efficacy in students.  Within the Math in the Fast Lane structure, there are a variety of engaging strategies that create academically successful students.  Teachers in virtually every part of the state have participated in Math in the Fast Lane training.
