Description:
Demystify the teaching of word problems! Learn how to transform verbal problems into a physical or pictorial representation that your students can understand. This workshop is designed for middle school teachers and elementary teachers of gifted students. High School teachers will also find these ideas helpful with students struggling with algebra. Note: Previous experience with Hands-On Equations is strongly recommended. Middle School & High School Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Curriculum Coordinators, Special Education Teachers, Pre-Algebra Teachers, General Math Teachers, Principals, Elementary High Abilities/GT Teachers, and other interested educators. Participants will receive a $50 gift certificate towards a classroom set of Hands-On Equations materials (expires 6 months from date of workshop). Presenter: Dr. Rima Binder from Long Beach, Indiana. November 18, 2009 (registration deadline: October 28, 2009); 8:00AM-3:00PM (registration/doors open at 7:30AM); Location: NWIESC, Highland; 3 CRUs or 8 PGPs will be provided.
