To modern enthusiasts, perhaps the single most familiar deity in all periods is Osiris, the god of the Dead. What links together Weni, Osiris, and Abydos? Seventeen years of work in the Abydos Middle Cemetery by University of Michigan teams has provided the means of piecing together the puzzle of Weni's true importance in his place and time, the role he played in the rise of the Osiris cult at Abydos, and the larger political landscape within which both Weni and Osiris were key players.
