Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious at TRINITY COLLEGE
Location: Cinestudio
(US, 1946) Directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, from a screenplay by Ben Hecht and Alfred Hitchcock.Cast: Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains. 102 min. If you’ve only seen Notorious on a DVD, you will be excused – but only if you drop everything to see this classic Hitchcock film in the ravishing high contrast black and white that can only be captured on celluloid. After Rebecca, his first Hollywood success, Hitchcock pushed for something a little riskier - a darkly romantic thriller with erotic undertones. Cary Grant stars as a U.S. agent who must convince the cool-headed agent he has fallen in love with to sleep with the enemy, a Nazi spy (Claude Rains). Ingrid Bergman is radiant as the ultimate Hitchcock heroine: blonde, intelligent, and, quite possibly, duplicitous. For trivia lovers: After filming, Hitchcock gave Bergman the key that features prominently in the plot. 33 years later, she gave it back to the visibly moved director after her speech honoring his work in a ceremony at the American Film Institute.
