CD Junior Lacrosse Registration 2012 | Harrisburg ...

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Central Dauphin Junior Lacrosse is to promote lacrosse in Central Pennsylvania and to provide a safe and competitive environment for elementary and middle school students to participate in the sport, learn the fundamentals of play, develop their skills and practice sportsmanship both on and off the field.

A little bit about our club…CD Jr. Lacrosse is open to players from 3rd through 8th grade (U9 - U15) in Central Dauphin and surrounding school districts. Linglestown Middle School is our practice field and home field for games. The teams we play are generally within a 30 - 45 minute drive of Harrisburg. Most games are held on weeknights starting between 5:30 and 6:30 pm and last approximately an hour. There is an occasional Saturday game and maybe the opportunity for a tournament or two for the U11 - U15 groups. The season usually begins in early April and runs until late May. The schedule will be available on or around March 1, 2012. Voluntary pre-season indoor practice is held at Sports City on Linglestown Road and will begin on January 10, 2012 (check web site for specifics) and will be one night per week for one hour for age groups U11 - U15 until the weather and fields are suitable for outdoor play. As this is a voluntary practice session and there will be a fee of approximately $25 per player for 8 weeks of practice and will be payable the first night your child attends. This fee covers the cost of renting the indoor facility. We understand that your child may also play other sports that happen to conflict on occasion with the indoor practice, however, the fee will not be pro-rated if a player is only able to attend a portion of the indoor practices since we pay by the hour and not by the player. We encourage all players to participate if they are able. Players are expected to provide their own lacrosse equipment to include: helmet, mouth guard, chest protector, elbow pads, gloves, stick and athletic cup. See age group descriptions below for more details. Angelo's Soccer Corner offers "starter sets" and a 10% discount to CD Jr. Lacrosse members. Dick's Sporting Goods, Kelly's Sports and various web sites also sell lax equipment. Please be sure the equipment is properly fitted to your child especially if it is borrowed. Football, soccer or lax cleats can be used for outdoor play and sneakers for indoor play. Registration fees are used to cover referee fees, field maintenance charges, club provided equipment, insurance, and other miscellaneous expenditures. Uniforms are provided to the players for the season "on loan" and a refundable deposit in the form of a check is required and then returned when the uniform is returned at the end of the season. The checks are not cashed unless the uniform is not returned. CD Jr Lacrosse has adopted the US Lacrosse guidelines for organization of the clubs teams which is something different than we have done in the past. They are as follows: U9...born on or after 9/1/2002 This age group offers fundamental instruction with limited contact for those new to lacrosse and players with a year or more of experience. Our goal is to introduce lacrosse skills and simulated game situations. Players are separated by one or more of the following: age, grade, size and experience. This age group is primarily a practice and scrimmage group. Game play will be primarily in-house scrimmages with a few games scheduled against other local clubs. The use of hockey helmet is allowed for U9 players. CD Jr Lacrosse will supply each player with a practice jersey. U11...born on or after 9/1/2000 The U11 program offers fundamental instruction for the new player and intermediate skill development for the experienced player. The U11 group is divided into equal strength teams and competes in a 10 to 12 game schedule. Additionally, players may be given an opportunity to participate in a year end tournament. The use of hockey helmet is allowed for U11 players. CD Jr Lacrosse will supply each player with shorts and jersey. U13...born on or after 9/1/1998 & U15...born on or after 9/1/1996 The U13 and U15 programs offer both fundamental instruction for the new player and advanced skill development for the experienced player. Our mission is to prepare players for high school teams and/or travel team programs. Dependent on the number of players, teams are divided into A and B level teams and compete in a 12 to 15 game schedule. Additionally, players will be given an opportunity to participate in at least one and more likely two tournaments. An approved lacrosse helmet is required for all U13 & U15 players. CD Jr Lacrosse will supply each player with shorts and jersey. Some other general information: Registration and team selection: The number of teams created at the U11, U13 and U15 age groups will depend on the number of boys that register. Rosters are generally kept to between 20 and 22 players. If there are more registered players than there are roster spots available, evaluations will be conducted to select boys to participate on the uniformed travel teams. This evaluation process will occur in late February or early March at the indoor practice facility. If not selected to participate on a uniformed travel team, all players will be included on a scrimmage squad. Players on the scrimmage squad will practice with the rest of the team and will scrimmage in-house with the team. There may be opportunities for these players to participate in some of the travel games. If selected for the scrimmage squad half of the registration fees will be refunded. The club recognizes that many of the boys will not have had previous or extensive exposure to lacrosse and we are committed to growing the sport and the participants’ interest in playing. Our goal is to provide all participants with the opportunity to advance their skill, understanding and love of the game. Female players: We generally refer girls to the all girl's CD lax team due to the fact that the girl’s lacrosse has a completely different set of rules and equipment. Please contact Krista Smith at ksmith@cdschools.org for more information. Communication within the club: We communicate via e-mail and it is very important that we have a current email address and that you check your e-mail regularly. Please contact your "team mom" when known or Chris Amos with any changes. Most information will be relayed via your "team mom" and on our website at http://cdjrlax.webs.com Fundraising: We will be having a mandatory fundraiser sub/sandwich sale in April and we are asking that each family sell at least $50 worth of subs/sandwiches. If you are unable to sell or do not wish to participate, there will be a $25 buy out on the following registration pages. Other voluntary fundraisers will include the concession stand, Giant Gift Cards, sale of Spirit Wear, Arooga's Friends & Family among others. Volunteers!: As with most club organizations, we are staffed solely by volunteers who act as coaches, team moms, and a Board. We ask for and encourage your support and participation whenever possible. If you are interested in getting involved in any capacity, please contact Chris Amos at cdlaxregistration@yahoo.com but feel free to sign up on this registration as well. We have gone to on-line registration for ease and efficiency, however, we understand there may be extenuating circumstances that wouldn't allow someone to register on-line. We do not want to turn anyone away for this reason so if there is a concern, please contact our Treasurer, Karen Roberts, at kjberts@verizon.net to discuss payment arrangements.
