Steve Wilson: Alto & Soprano Saxophone and Flutes

In celebration of his 50th birthday, Hampton native Steve Wilson returns to our stage with an all star quartet. Joining Steve in this special concert are: Patrice Rushen, James Genus (from Saturday Night live band—also a Hampton native) and Billy Kilson. Steve has earned himself an enviable prominent position on the bandstand and in the studio with the greatest names in jazz. He has brought his distinctive sound to more than 100 recordings led by such celebrated artists as Chick Corea, George Duke, Dave Holland, Dianne Reeves, Charlie Byrd and a host of others. Under his own name, he has seven recordings—leading and collaborating with such stellar musicians as Lewis Nash, Carl Allen, Steve Nelson, Cyrus Chestnut, Nicholas Payton (and others). Wilson graduated from VCU where he studied with such legends as Ellis Marsalis and he was a featured guest with Dr. Billy Taylor in his series Jazz at the Kennedy Center which is broadcast on NPR. In addition to his busy touring and recording schedule, Steve serves on the faculty of The Manhattan School of Music, SUNY Purchase and Columbia University.
