Matt Haimovitz, Cellist in Beyond Bach at Location: The American Theatre

Cost: $25 or $30

World renowned as a musical pioneer, cellist Matt Haimovitz inspires classical music lovers and countless new listeners by bringing his remarkable artistry to concert halls and clubs, intimate coffee houses and outdoor festivals—any place where passionate music can be heard and enjoyed. He breathes a fresh air in to familiar repertoire, champions new works and initiates ground breaking collaborations and recording projects. He is re-defining what it means to be a performing artist in the 21st century. Winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, Matt made his debut at the age of 13 with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. He made his first recording at the age of 17 with Levine and the Chicago Symphony. He has since gone on to perform with the world's leading orchestras and on the world's most prestigious concert stages. But it is the solo cello recital which has become his trademark—both inside and outside the concert hall. He made huge waves in 200, when he took Bach's beloved Cello Suites into clubs and more "non-traditional" settings across the U.S. and Canada. A student of Leonard Rose, Ronald Leonard and Yo Yo Ma, Haimovitz received his B.A., magma cum laude from Harvard. He plays a Venetian cello made by Matteo Gofriller in 1710.
