MATISYAHU MATISYAHU Thursday, November 12, 2009, 8:30pmAge Policy | TicketsSync with Computer Superstar Hasidic reggae/rapper rocks out with LIGHTHe dresses in black, but his new album LIGHT shines. Matisyahu exploded in 2004 - after Matthew Miller dusted off his traditional Jewish upbringing, followed Phish around the country, visited Israel, dedicated himself to his faith and became way more than what the world expected: a mere novelty act. Now the Hasidic reggae/rapper, whose Aug. 25 release earned him a spot on The Tonight Show with Conan OBrien and propelled him on a world tour, is doing what he does best: making his fans a bit meshuggah (crazy) -- once again, hes pushing the boundaries. Where he has long been a jam-band fave with rap inflections, now hes got the chutzpah to rock out. That could be thanks to the albums producer, who worked with sublime and the Sugar Ray. Fans of the Black Eyed Peas/Jack Johnson collabo Gone Going will rejoice, says Spin magazine. You'll notice The Handlebar's the smallest room - by far - on Matisyahu's tour itinerary. Unh-hunh.
