Description
Whether you come to ski, snowmobile, bike, fish, hike, golf, canoe, or just sit and relax, each season features its own splendors. You'll find that Grand Marais offers the best variety of restaurants, gift shops and services--all within walking distance of each other. Enjoy shopping and cultural activities centered near the scenic harbor. Check out the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery, Arrowhead Center for the Arts, Cook County Historical Society Museum, the Art Colony and numerous art galleries and artisan studios.

At the gateway to the Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais is surrounded by millions of acres of the Superior National Forest, rocky cliffs, serene inland lakes and wilderness streams plunging over waterfalls to Lake Superior below. Immerse yourself in the natural grandeur: hike the Superior Hiking Trail, state park trails or take a day trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

The fall color is unforgettable. Inland maple ridges break out in splashes of orange and red that soon spread across the hillsides. In early October, shoreline birch and aspen add brilliant yellows and golds to the landscape. Marking the end of early autumn, the tamaracks burst forth in a final golden dress.

Averaging more than ten feet of snow each year, Grand Marais is a winter recreation paradise. We offer top cross-country ski trails, with hundreds of kilometers of tracked, groomed trails for novices and experts. More than 800 miles of designated snowmobile routes stretch along the ridges above Lake Superior and through inland woods along the North Shore. Our winter playground also hosts dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice fishing and sleigh rides.

Relax, explore and recharge in some of the most scenic, undeveloped land in the country -- just 100 miles north of Duluth. Getaway to an unforgettable vacation. Grand Marais is what you're looking for every season of the year!
