Superior, Winkleman and Globe Loop Ride

Let’s head out for some great scenery and ride the Winkleman loop with a stop at Goldfield Ghost Town in Apache Junction, AZ and head home. Road speeds from 35 to 65 MPH. on highway, state routes and town roads. Moderate twists and turns with some up and down road elevations Riding level – 6 months to experienced. Total Distance is approximately 195 miles. Here’s the riding plan: Meet-up at Lowe’s at 8:15 AM. Kick stands up at 8:30 AM. Head out east on Rt. 60 to Superior, AZ. Stop for breakfast at Los Hermanos Restaurant in Superior, AZ (at the State Rest Area). (2 eggs, meat, potatoes and toast - $4.50-5.00. Coffee is 75 cents and they have great homemade fruit turnovers for 75 cents – “good cheap eats”) Take Rt. 60 to Rt. 177 (1 mile) to Winkleman, AZ. Gas & rest at Arizona Fuel Mini Mart located at Rt. 177 & Rt.77 in Winkleman. Take Rt. 77 toward Globe, AZ. At 24 miles, stop at an AZ State designated view point to enjoy the scenery/pictures (on the right side of the road). Continue toward Globe to Rt. 70. turn left and head to Globe. Take Rt. 70 to Rt. 60 in Globe. Travel west on Rt. 60 to Superior and stop for gas/rest. Continue west on Rt. 60 to Goldfield Rd. Exit (Just west of Gold Canyon, AZ) Turn right onto Goldfield Rd. and take Old West Highway (bare to the left about ¼ mi.). Take Old West Highway (1 mile) to Tomahawk Rd., turn right and head north. Continue on Tomahawk Rd. (2 miles) to Rt. 88 (Apache Trail) and turn right onto Rt. 88. Continue on Rt. 88 (2 ½ miles) to Goldfield Ghost Town located on the left side of road. At Goldfield, enjoy some ice cream, refreshments, or lunch at the saloon/restaurant. Take in the sights and snap a few pictures. Head home. Hope to see you all there! Vinny
