Description
Arizona Solar Training Class #9: Solar System Sizing This solar training class will cover the following solar training topics: •Differentiate between the approaches and methodologies for sizing different types of PV systems •Understand the primary factors that affect system sizing •Determine the system energy and power requirements from a load analysis •Calculate the critical design parameters based on monthly load and insolation information •Calculate the size and configuration of the battery bank based on system requirements •Calculate the size and configuration of the solar array based on system requirements The first paragraph of Chapter 9: For electrical systems that use PV arrays as their only source of electricity, system sizing is critical. The size of the array, battery bank, and other major components necessary to adequately meet the load requirements must carefully be calculated. Sizing procedures are an important part of planning any PV system, but are especially stringent for stand-alone systems. Worksheets can be used to organize information and guide system-sizing calculations for most simple systems, though complex or hybrid systems may require computer models or simulation software. To receive the maximum benefit of this solar training class, you should: 1. Read Photovoltaic Systems, Chapter 9 on Solar System Sizing 2. Memorize the terms on pages 252-254 3. Be prepared to answer the review questions at the bottom of page 254 4. Review the practice quizzes and flash cards on the CD-Rom from the text book 5. Dial into the teleconference number provided via email at 7:00 pm Pacific time on 11/10/09 6. Download the Chapter 9 PowerPoint Presentation prior to class 7. The teleconference number will be emailed to everyone that RSVPs yes to this event Click the image to buy a copy of the Solar Textbook: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51FZTN7NR2L._SL500_AA240_.jpg Arizona Online Solar Training Class Mission: The purpose of this solar training class is to educate anyone who wants to learn about planning, configuring and installing solar power systems. The best feature is that students can study whenever their schedule permits versus having to take five days off from work. Arizona 15-Week Online Solar Training Class Description: The course is designed for students that have full-time jobs and cannot afford to take off work. The course is a 15-week course that requires students to read 15 chapters from a college level solar textbook, participate in weekly discussions like this one and take a weekly chapter test on Thursdays. At the end of 15 weeks, students take a final exam. Students that pass with average of 70% or better will receive a solar diploma. Click here to see the full 15-week online solar training class agenda. Students can sign up in the middle of class, make up the classes they missed at the beginning of next semester, then take their final. Arizona 5-Day Classroom Solar Training Class Description: The 5-day classroom-based solar training class is designed for students that can afford to take off 5 days from work in order to obtain a quick professional solar certification and hands-on solar installation experience. The course is taught M-5, 9 am - 5 pm in a classroom environment located in Phoenix. Students will take an ETA Certification test on Thursday afternoon and participate in the "Hands-On" Solar Training Installation exercises all day on Friday.
