      Choral Winter Concert

      Christ Chapel
      Friday, December 6, 2013, 8 – 10pm

The choral ensembles of Gettysburg College will perform their annual Winter Concert on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6 at 8:00 p.m. at Christ Chapel on 300 N. Washington Street. A Gettysburg tradition for more than 75 years, the concert will take place on Friday evening, instead of the usual Saturday.

A highlight of the performance will be "Rejoice in the Lamb," for choir and organ, featuring the 120 voices of the combined College Choir and Concert Choir, soloists, and well-known local organist David Erickson. The piece was written by the famous English composer Benjamin Britten, whose centenary will be celebrated this year with hundreds of performances of his music around the world. "Rejoice in the Lamb" is one of his best-known choral masterpieces.

Each choir in the choral program will perform music for the holiday season and other pieces that they've prepared throughout the fall semester. Music by familiar composers such as Arvo Pärt, Heinrich Schütz, Claudio Monteverdi, John Rutter and Moses Hogan will be sung, and also music by less well-known composers. The audience will be invited to sing the beloved holiday carols with the choirs.

The choral program in the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College includes four ensembles - the College Choir, Concert Choir, Women's Choir and Camerta - that comprise some 140 singers. Many of these singers are music majors and minors, but the choirs also include members from almost every major on campus. The Concert Choir also includes singers from the Gettysburg community.

Admission is $5.00 at the door (cash or check - no credit cards); admission is free with Gettysburg College ID and for children under age 12. The concert will last approximately 90 minutes.
