FoNL Birthday Celebration

About this Meetup Group Friends it has been a year since Gainesville Paddle Group suggested we form Friends of Newnan's Lake; assigned with the task of Newnan's water quality. We have really covered some ground; starting out with a mailing list of 24, your efforts have increased that number 29 times to a whooping 700! It shows in the water managers wording too :) It takes time though; and that is certainly something we have plenty of! Recently attending the "secret/hidden SJRWMD Symposium" a two day technical meeting for scientist to discuss the minimum flow levels for the St. John's River and the Ocklawaha; stating that it would not harm the rivers; St. John's River Keeper Neil stood up and showed 4 pictures of the current condition of the river; the pictures were not the pristine or beautiful examples we were shown through out the meeting, instead they clearly represented the river in-gulfed in cyanobacteria. No one commented! So folks as you can see this very problem stems from managements lack of clarity when it comes to the TRUTH, and as far as decision making goes it is crucial that our scientists and resource managers be completely truthful to the Public and it's Officials.
