Complete Description:
Cook will perform three works by Brahms, beginning with "Auf dem Kirchhofe" ("At the Cemetery") in which the piano plays furious arpeggios and thick chords to portray a storm taking place above the churchyard. The second piece is "Sonntag" ("Sunday") where a jubilant young man finally gets to see his sweetheart on Sunday. The tempo is very animated to portray the narrator's enthusiasm. The third piece is "Vergebliches Standchen" ("Serenade in Vain"); this piece is a conversation between a young man at his beloved's window begging for her to let him in, and his sweetheart, whose mother warned her about the consequences of such actions. Cook will also be performing pieces by Scarlatti, Carissimi, Caccini, Rossini, Strauss, Quilter and Vaughn Williams.

Free and open to the public.
