All are welcome regardless of experience. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a cushion for those choosing to sit on the floor. Chairs are provided if you meditate in a chair. Instruction will be provided to beginners. Please arrive at 6:15 - 6:20. After the bell is rung three times, we chant briefly then sit for approximately 30 minutes. At times we do guided imagery or other forms of meditation, i.e. walking, "metta", forgiveness, etc. Usually the last 15 to 20 minutes are spent in a healing circle. We practice taking our meditation experience into the world with us at the close of the evening (approximately 8pm). We ask for a donation from those that are able to give in order to help support the Tai Chi Center. If the door seems to be locked when you get there, pull on it extra hard - it's a little sticky! The sitting will be lead by Renee Potik who is a retired nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience practicing and teaching a combination of Zen and Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation. Through meditation one cultivates an awareness of your own true nature, a purification of consciousness, and a deep spiritual wisdom. Over time, addictions fall away. Compassion arises. Practice allows us to more calmly and effectively meet life's many demands, to be present, and to fully experience our "aliveness". When we as individuals meditate, we affect all sentient beings in a most positive way. We feel our connectedness and understand that we are doing a good deed. "Recent research indicates that meditating brings about dramatic effects. ... Several studies have demonstrated that subjects who meditated for a short time showed increased alpha waves (the relaxed brain waves) and decreased anxiety and depression. ...
