Surfside Beach Marathon at Stahlman Park
Races: Marathon, Half Marathon
COURSE: The Surfside to San Luis Pass beach-front along the Gulf of Mexico is broad and flat with hard packed sand. The resulting surface is firm, much like a hiking trail. In most areas, foot falls do not sink into the sand. A mild cross-wind is almost always present, which might be felt more strongly in one direction than the other. However, the breeze ensures cool temperatures at all times of the day. All 26.2 Miles of the race, and all 13.1 of the half are on the beach. With little development in the area, the setting is mostly natural beach. Unique awards and a full Texas Barbeque await the finishers in the indoor pavilion.
Event Start Location
2211 Blue Water Highway, Surfside Beach Texas (Stahlman Park Pavillion) It is 2 miles NE of Surfside Beach Village on the Beach Highway
Course Description
It's a beach! But it is relatively flat and firm. Out and back on the beach.
Awards
5 year awards, with medals for all. Our awards are designed by a local artist, and custom made - no cheesy trophies.
Packet Pickup / Expo
Friday Afternoon, February 17, 2012, and Saturday morning until race time, at Stahlman Park (Same place as the race start).
Timing / Results
Chip timing
Post Race Activities
The biggest and best Texas BBQ, courtesy of Barrett Hall, a well known cooker, and BBQ contest JUDGE.
Weather
If we only knew! Usually the weather is about 50F at the start, warming into the 60's by noon. There is ALWAYS a breeze off the gulf to keep you cool, so it is rarely hot.
Directions
From Lake Jackson, go East on Highway 332, until you reach the beach highway, turn left on the Blue Water Highway, and go exactly 2 miles to Stahlman Park. Race day, there will be a diversion onto the beach for parking.
Parking
Along the beach either side of the park, single file up against the dunes.
