Radiating Hope 5K at ACRO

Radiating Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to provide and update radiation equipment to developing countries, will be hosting a 5K at this years ACRO annual meeting in Fort Myers, Florida.

The race will be on Saturday, February 25th at the Sanibel Harbor Marriott in Fort Myers at 6:45, the sunrise is at 7AM so it should be a spectacular run.

Cost: Per Individual $35. Registration includes a Radiating Hope t-shirt (if registered by January 10th, 2012)

Our goal: The race will raise money to update a radiation facility in Senegal, Africa (see picture). Our goal is to raise enough money to replace the Cobalt source for their radiation teletherapy machine. This will more than double the amount of people they can treat in a day! Furthermore, money will be used to help transport a Linear Accelerator (Radiation treatment machine) to Senegal. In developing countries more people are dying from cancer than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and, Tuberculosis combined. This high death rate is due to lack of availability to life saving cancer treatments...something we can change. We feel everyone deserves a chance to beat cancer. Fundraising: The runner/walker who raises the most money will receive an ipad (minimum of $500.00 raised to be eligible, all checks and donations will be gathered the day of the race or can be donated online in advance. All donations are tax deductible ).

Dedicate a prayer flag: For an additional $20 you can dedicate a prayer flag for a loved one. This flag will be taken on multiple mountaineering expeditions and eventually be placed at the base camp of Mt Everest (see 'prayer flag' link). Departments that dedicate more that 250 flags in honor of their patients will receive a discount of $10.00 per flag donated. You can also run in memory or in support of a loved one affect by cancer. Register as a team and recruit team members to help raise money for cancer patients in developing countries.

We encourage that you raise additional funds to help Senegal, these funds will be collected at the race and the departments or person donating the most will be recognized and featured on the Radiating Hope website. Aslo any donation above $500.00 can elect to have their logo place on the 5K shirt (if donated by Jan 10th).
