Hollywood Urban Ride (Sunday morning--7:30)

PLEASE NOTE EARLIER TIME---IT'S GETTING HOT OUT THERE!! We meet in the WinnDixie parking lot on the south side of Dania Beach Blvd (308), just east of US1 (from 95, take Griffin east, turn right on US1 and left on Dania Beach blvd. WinnDixie is 1/16 mile on your right), at 7:45 to allow for equipment checks and adjustments. Please make sure your bike is in working order!! We leave promptly at 7:30 a.m. I will email yes and maybe rsvper’s my phone number a day before the ride. Please call if you can't make it or are running late. Things to bring: water (at least a quart), helmet, spare tire (just in case), sunblock. brunch afterward is sometimes an option This ride is modeled on the Boca Urban Ride (and I’m indebted to its creators and organizer for the inspiration to create this one), and is a work in progress. Any type bike will do. The ride will provide a great workout for all but the fittest riders, as it is approximately 25 miles at medium intensity (10-14mph). There will be opportunities to burn and to catch your breath. The surroundings are beautiful since we ride through neighborhoods and parks, along boardwalks, and beach roads. And the company is great. What could be better? A helmet is strongly recommended. The route runs east of US1 between dania beach blvd in the north and Hallandale beach blvd in the south. The ride will take about 2 ½ - 3 hours, including a rest stop at the beach. Depending on the wind (thanks Marty), we'll head south on SE 3rd, zip 'round Ann Kolb and West Lake Parks off Sheridan, and ride around the ECO golf course. Moving east on Johnson, we'll follow the intercoastal waterway under Hollywood bridge. From there we wind our way around north and south lakes to Diplomat Parkway, which brings us to Hallandale Beach Blvd. After crossing the intercoastal, we'll break at Hallandale beach and then ride A1A northbound until we can cut over to the Broadwalk (Iris st). Dodging pedestrians (please be careful), we'll enjoy the ocean breeze nd the view. Continuing north, we merge into Surf Rd which we ride to the northern extremity of our route: dania beach pier. Around the ramp, over the bridge, and it's a straight downhill ride back to winn-dixie. If the wind is from the north, we'll reverse the direction of the ride, so it's not full blast in our faces along the beach where it's toughest.
