Karl L. King Monument dedicated; King Band Concert in Fort Dodge at see description - Fort Dodge

A new monument of Karl L. King will be unveiled and dedicated in Fort Dodge on Sunday, October 22. The afternoon festivities will begin at 3 pm with a concert by the Karl L. King Municipal Band, under the direction of Jerold Jimmerson. At about 3:45 pm, the program will start. Several guest dignitaries, including the sculptor, will speak.

The statue is life-sized in bronze and will be located in Karl King Memorial Park, near the present public library. It is near the site of the old City Square Bandstand where the King band played summer evening concerts from the time of King's arrival in Fort Dodge in 1921, until his death in 1971.

On Saturday, October 21, there will be an open house at the library public meeting room, with an exhibition of King memorabilia, including pictures, awards, medals, uniforms, and original manuscripts. Andrwe Glover, executive of the C.L. Barnhouse Co., King's major publisher, will be on hiad with historic items from their company, including antique music engraving tools and engraved metal printing plates of King compositions.
The display will also feature a large collection of musical instruments, many antiqur, rare, unique and unusual, plus several instruments played by early Fort Dodge band musicians.
Among instrumetnts of special interest will be a cornet played by famous circus band leader Merle Evans and the last instrument, a baritone hor, owned and played by Karl King.
The display will be open to the public from 10 am until 3 pm Saturday only. There is no admission charge, although free-will offerings will be accepted.
