This is the solo project of whimsical, musical delights from Philip Waggoner<a href="http://onjoyfulwings.bandcamp.com/album/newmans-open-choir" mce_href="http://onjoyfulwings.bandcamp.com/album/newmans-open-choir">Newman's Open Choir by Catch Bees</a> Catch Bees is the solo musical endeavor of singer/songwriter Philip Waggoner (head of the now‐defunct Sunshine House). From haunting, melodramatic tones that exhume contemplation to light, whimsical melodies that uplift and question, Catch Bees' inaugural solo, full‐length record dubbed, "Newman's Open Choir" will challenge to the musical core. For nearly the past year, Waggoner has been crafting, orchestrating, writing and recording this 13‐song collection. With guest performances from Denison Witmer [on Atlanta], You Me & Apollo [on Why for Here], and Becky Raab [on Why for Here and Fighters], this record represents an 'open choir' cataloging musical relationships that have influenced Waggoner and allowed him to get to the point of completing and releasing "Newman's Open Choir." Chris Kresge with The Colorado Sound claimed that "This early in the year I want to temper my enthusiasm, knowing there will be excellent albums to come, but … this [Newman's Open Choir] is one very very fine album… thoughtful, sentimental, open, moving … everything on here is top shelf, grade A, masterful." With a wide array of instrumentation influenced by artists from Mozart and the classical period to Magnet to Blind Willie McTell and the Georgia 20 blues, "Newman's Open Choir" will give you a new look into Waggoner's interpretation of the evolving nature of pop music.
