Ida Viper draws on the roots of American music from bluegrass and swing to jazz tunes from the 20s and 30s. Mark Petteys (5-string banjo, guitar and vocals), Brian Oberlin (mandolin and vocals), Peter Schwimmer (fiddle, mandolin, 5-string banjo and vocals) and Russ Baker (bass and vocals) bring high-energy improvisational arrangements to bluegrass and western swing.
Petteys and Oberlin formed Ida Viper during the summer of 2005 in Portland, Oregon, and were joined by Baker and Schwimmer the following the year. The quartet's debut CD, Some of These Days, arrived in May 06.
