From St. Petersburg, Russia, this 90-piece orchestra under the direction of Roman Leontiev will perform Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod (Love-Death), Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. Widely regarded as one of the preeminent Russian conductors of his generation, Leontiev has conducted the Budapest Radio and Television Orchestra, Symphonica Toscanini, Budapest Philharmonic, and many more. The featured soloist is pianist Alexandre Pirojenko—“He has the technical skills to do anything he wants with a piano; better yet, what he wants to do is sensitive, original, and brilliant” (The Washington Post).
